Chapter History
Honoring Our Past, Inspiring Our Future
Over 40 Years of Dedication and Service
Founded in 1981, the David Douglas Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) proudly celebrates over 40 years of promoting patriotism, supporting education, fostering good citizenship, honoring veterans, and preserving history within our community. Named in honor of the Scottish pioneer botanist David Douglas (1799–1834)—whose discovery of the majestic Douglas Fir symbolizes the natural heritage of our Pacific Northwest—our chapter is steeped in tradition and committed to community service.
We hold eight meetings each year, from September through June, featuring presentations on topics ranging from genealogy and historic preservation to women’s issues. Annual events include the Wreaths Across America ceremony, Constitution Week displays and proclamations, and the DAR Good Citizen Awards for local high school seniors. In addition, our chapter supports veterans through multiple programs and contributes to community projects, such as sponsoring a Little Free Library in Redmond in 2023.
With a membership exceeding 95—many of whom serve in leadership roles at the state level—we are united by our proven lineal descent from American Revolution patriots, our passion for civic engagement, and our commitment to preserving our heritage for future generations. We welcome Daughters from other chapters to join us as Associate members and share in our vibrant traditions and service.
In 2011, David Douglas Chapter founded the Mt. Rainier Society Children of the American Revolution (C.A.R.). This organization is dedicated to educating young people about American history and patriotism, with membership open to descendants of American Revolution patriots.
